ADP stands for the Assistive Devices Program. It is part of The Ministry of Health and Long Term Care in Canada. Among other products, it subsidizes 75% of the cost for certain lymphedema compression products including garments, compression pumps and the Reid Sleeve.
Any permanent resident of Ontario with a valid health card is eligible for ADP funding. There is a three step process to the garment application.
1) A signature is required by a physician specialist (surgeon, oncologist, vascular surgeon etc.) who must provide a diagnosis of lymphedema.
2) An authorizer's signature is required. This person must be registered with the ADP program as an authorizer and can be a RN, RMT, physiotherapist or an occupational therapist.
3) The registered fitter's signature is required.
The ADP program will cover up to 6 garments each year. That is one pair (one to wash, one to wear) every 4 months.
At the present time, there is no cure for Lymphedema. However, it is a treatable, manageable condition!
